At today’s government briefing, Health Secretary Matt Hancock said that 324 more deaths from coronavirus had been recorded in the UK, bringing the total of fatalities to 39,369.
“We mourn each one of these.” he added.

He said that there were 436 new hospital admissions yesterday, the lowest figure since 20 March - pointing to these statistics as indicators that progress was being made against the disease.

He went on to pay particular tribute to the many BAME NHS staff who have been working on the frontline during the pandemic.

In Swindon, there are currently 455 confirmed cases of Covid-19 and in Wiltshire there are 534. It was earlier reported that there have been no further deaths of Covid-19 at Great Western Hospital, with the number remaining at 118 since the start of the outbreak. These figures are valid up to 5pm yesterday.

As of 9am on 2 June, there have been 4,615,146 tests, with 135,643 tests on 1 June.

277,985 people have tested positive.

As of 5pm on 1 June, of those tested positive for coronavirus in the UK, 39,369 have died. This new figure includes deaths in all settings, not just in hospitals. The equivalent figure under the old measure would have been 31,136.
