Steam is offering discount entry for children as part of its 'Kids for a Quid' initiative.

Tickets to the museum of Great Western Railway are now available to book online until the Tuesday, 31 August.

The discount is available for visits between Friday, 23 July and Sunday, 5 September. Up to four children (aged three to 15 years) can visit Steam for just £1 each when accompanied by a full-paying adult.

To claim this summer holiday discount, visitors must book a timed slot in advance online through the Steam museum website: www.steam-museum.org.uk. Select the required number of adult and child tickets and enter the discount code K4Q21 at the checkout. The offer is not valid in conjunction with any other offer or promotion including the purchase of family tickets.

Frances Yeo, Steam museum manager, said: “It's great to be welcoming visitors back to the museum and we are very pleased to be running our popular ‘Kids for a Quid’ offer once again over the school holidays.

“There are lots of activities for families to take part in over the summer, from driving our train simulator, to visiting our special exhibitions and getting involved with our new object handling sessions.

“We are proud to tell the story of Swindon’s incredible history as a railway town and we hope that all generations will enjoy getting their ‘Hands on the Past’."

Visitors to Swindon’s award-winning museum can view two new exhibitions: ‘GWR Shipping’, exploring the history of the company’s ships at sea, and ‘Through the Window’, which showcases artworks from Swindon museum and Art Gallery, alongside vintage rail travel posters.

Families are also invited to take part in the museum’s ‘Hands on the Past’ object handling sessions on Wednesdays and Thursdays throughout August. Visitors will be able to find out what it would have been like to have a job at Swindon Works or discover what life would have been like in Swindon’s Railway Village. Sessions last 30 minutes and cost £2 per person, in addition to Steam admission.

Steam’s new Children’s Activity book is now available to buy. For just £4.95, the book includes 14 activities, including 'I spy', drawing challenges, spot the difference and educational activities to show how a steam engine works.

The Swindon Borough Council-owned and operated museum has achieved the UK-recognised ‘Good to Go’ certification. Safety measures have been put in place including: enhanced cleaning, reduced overall capacities, one-way systems, and plenty of hand sanitiser stations.

Visitors are asked to respect social distancing measures. As per Government guidelines, visitors will need to wear a face covering unless exempt.
