Walcot Councillors Emma Bushell, Abdul Amin and Steve Allsopp are pleased to announce that work on the 20mph zone for West Walcot has been completed.
The work involved the installation of new 20mph signs on existing lamp posts and a few additional posts where necessary. It has taken longer than hoped for the new speed limit to be introduced and there were also delays in the contractor inserting all of the signage, however this has now been completed.
Walcot Councillor, Emma Bushell, said:
“It is great news that the 20mph limit has been introduced in West Walcot. The idea of a 20mph Zone was first proposed by Cllr Steve Allsopp at a public meeting in April 2016. The scheme received widespread support in a consultation of residents carried out in the autumn. We are hopeful the scheme will change the behaviour of drivers in the area and make West Walcot roads safer for the community.
We would like to thank residents for their patience while the work was carried out. If you would like more information or to discuss this matter further please contact your local councillors.”
