GLL, the charitable social enterprise that operates Swindon’s leisure facilities, has stepped in to offer a home to local charity, Connecting Communities, after their office lease was unexpectedly terminated.
Connecting Communities is a Swindon-based charity, founded in 2018, that offers a safe space to support vulnerable women from diverse backgrounds and helps re-settled refugee families by providing essential household goods. The charity effectively became homeless after the lease on their Edison Park premises came to an end this month.
However, the charity now has a new base within The Link Leisure Centre, which has offered meeting and storage space to the group, meaning they will be able to continue their important work.
Chair of Connecting Communities, Tajwar Hussan said: “I am very thankful to GLL for stepping in to support Connecting Communities after the closure of the "Faith Centre" and for providing us with a generous space to continue our activities for the wider Swindon community.
“We look forward to celebrating our partnership and working together to utilise this space for the benefit of all."
Mark Harrison, Community Sports Manager for GLL said: “When we heard about Connecting Communities plight, we wanted to help. As a charitable social enterprise one of our core values is supporting the local communities in which we operate, while it’s important that we reach out to under-represented groups.
“We very much look forward to a positive future for Connecting Communities at The Link Centre and are excited to explore ways to work together on local community initiatives.”
