Lydiard Park is gearing up for even more summer events, offering something for all ages to enjoy throughout July, August and September.

July highlights include outdoor theatre in the beautiful Walled Garden taking place on Saturday 25 July where the award-winning Immersion Theatre will present Romeo & Juliet, a fun and lively retelling of Shakespeare’s timeless story of love, rivalry and heartbreak.

Throughout the month, visitors can discover the history of Lydiard House on a guided tour with cream tea. Explore the elegant State Rooms and hear fascinating stories of the St John family before relaxing with a pot of tea and scones.

August begins with The Great British Food Festival on 1 and 2 August, featuring artisan food and drink, live chef demonstrations, children’s entertainment, craft stalls, eating challenges and live music. Plus, outdoor theatre returns on 2 August with a fun-filled adaptation of The Jungle Book.

From 5 August, Lydiard House Museum will be open Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 4pm, and children can visit for just £1 when accompanied by a full-paying adult. Visitors can have a go at the new Mystery at the Museum adventure (additional charge applies), while mindful art activities run every Thursday. Have a go at hapa zome, create a clay coaster, design a colourful suncatcher or create a woven artwork using natural materials.

A relaxed Summer Paint & Sip evening takes place on 5 August, while families can enjoy animal encounters, educational displays and live entertainment as Mayhem of Mad4Animals returns on 8 August.

The inaugural Lydiard Garden Party on 22 August promises a superb afternoon of live music from Phoebe Appleby (Music by Phoebe) and Jason Boorman, followed by a DJ set, with BBQ food and refreshing drinks available from the pop-up bar.

The programme continues into September with Birds of Prey on 12 September, an 80s Experience at Lydiard Park Hotel on 19 September, and Heritage Apple Day on 26 September, featuring rare apples, themed games, a pop-up shop and a free art exhibition by Billy Beaumont.

Councillor Matthew Vallender, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Planning and Regeneration, said: “Lydiard Park is the jewel of Swindon’s crown and it’s fantastic to see so many events coming up over the summer months.

“Not only do we have events on the various weekends during the holidays, but the park itself is a joy to explore any day of the week whether you’re outdoorsy or not.

“So if you’re looking at the summer holidays and already thinking ‘how do I keep the kids entertained’, or if you’re wondering how you can keep yourself entertained, look no further than Lydiard Park.”

Councillor Jake Chandler, Deputy Leader of Swindon Borough Council and the Cabinet Member responsible for Country Parks, said: “We have a number of amazing country parks across Swindon and Lydiard is truly one of the greats.

“I’m very happy that we’re able to take full advantage of the space the park provides to host some exciting events over the summer and I look forward to seeing smiles on the faces of everyone who chooses to visit this gem over the school holiday.”
