As part of a new customer service scheme Blenheim Palace has teamed up with Oxford Playhouse to introduce new theatrical workshops for staff.

Focusing on customer service and communication, this joint initiative between Blenheim and Oxford Playhouse is designed to improve liasons between staff and customers.

Lorna Meazey, Annual Pass Supervisor said: ‘We undertook this workshop with the Playhouse staff in the Marlborough Room in the Palace. It was a great space in which to work, being so wide, bright and open I felt it was easier to relax and enjoy the experience.

"In a small group, we took part in a variety of group theatrical play activities, for example focusing our minds on each other’s names while passing around an object between us. We also undertook activities in which we became more aware of our bodies, breathing and voices, even having a go at reading a theatrical monologue.

"I learned more about my own and others’ body language, and how it is possible to control our ‘performance’ (i.e. our everyday interactions) using techniques such as breathing exercises and utilising the space we are standing or sitting in. Mezze and Matt made me more aware of the power we can each hold in positioning and voice."

Sarah Morris, Head of HR added: “The workshops led by Oxford Playhouse offer staff the opportunity to step outside of their comfort zones and build their confidence in their own abilities. This is a great way to help them engage with our visitors in different ways according to their own style."
