Police dog Max sniffs out suspected drink driver

A 31-year-old man was arrested in Swindon last night after a police dog located him hiding in a bush.

Officers received a report of a suspected drink driver in the Greenmeadow area of Swindon at approximately 10.30pm (20/08).

Whilst travelling to the incident, officers spotted a Nissan Qashqai matching the description given travelling along Whitworth Road. 

The vehicle made off at speed out of sight but was located in Stour Walk where a man was seen to decamp and run off in the direction of Sevenfields. 

Police dog Max attended the scene with his handler and the pair carried out a lengthy search before locating a man hiding in undergrowth.

A man, from Swindon, was arrested on suspicion of taking without consent, failing to provide a specimen of breath, dangerous driving, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and driving whilst unfit through drink and drugs. 

He has been taken to custody in Gablecross where he remains for questioning.
