He added: "Those passing English and Maths with Grade 4 to 9 remained strong at 70%.  The excellent results are a reflection of the hard work and dedication of the pupils and staff. English and Maths Basics, is extremely positive, those achieving grade 5 (equivalent of the legacy B grade) stands at 45%, a significant improvement on the previous year.

"The Progress 8 measure for schools is difficult to calculate at this point, but I am confident that it will have significantly improved on last year. We had a good feeling about this Year 11 group of 187 pupils. They showed a very positive attitude, working hard throughout their revision. There have been some outstanding individual performances, with pupils achieving a number of Grade 9s. "
