Long-serving Conservative councillors step down from cabinet positions

Councillors Fionuala Foley and Garry Perkins will be standing down from their cabinet positions, it has been announced by the Conservative group.

Councillor Garry Perkins, will be standing down from his role as Cabinet Member for the Town Centre and Regeneration. Councillor Perkins will be continuing as a ward councillor for Haydon Wick and will be spending more time running his business. He will be replaced on the Cabinet by Councillor Dale Heenan. Cllr Perkins will also continue as the Vice Chair of the Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Authority?

And Councillor Fionuala Foley has also taken the decision to step down from her position as Cabinet Member for Highways and the Environment for personal reasons. She will be replaced by Councillor Maureen Penny. Councillors Penny and Heenan will take up their posts at the full council meeting on 20 September. 

Councillor Renard said “I would like to offer my heartfelt thanks to Councillor Perkins and Councillor Foley for all their support and hard work over many years. This is an administration dedicated to delivering for the town on the commitments we have made to the voters, and that means continuing to have a strong team at the top. With this reshuffle I am confident that we have the right people in the right posts to meet the future ambitions of Swindon Borough Council. 

“I am looking forward to working together with our new cabinet, building on the council's previous successes.  Every member of the team brings wide ranging expertise and enthusiasm to their roles, and I am looking forward to working hard to improve the services accessed by our residents, and to continue to make a difference where it really matters.”?

The full changes are: ?

Councillor Dale Heenan becomes Cabinet Member for the Town Centre and Regeneration.

Councillor Maureen Penny becomes Cabinet Member for Highways and the Environment.

Cllr Foley will become Chair of the Adults and Health Overview and Scrutiny and will also replace Cllr Heenan as Group Whip.  

Cllr Brian Mattock will replace Cllr Nick Martin who is standing down from the Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Authority. ?

Councillor Russell Holland - Cabinet Member for Finance and Deputy Leader

Councillor Keith Williams - Cabinet Member for Corporate and Customer Services

Councillor Oliver Donachie - Cabinet Member for Economic Prosperity

Councillor Gary Sumner - Cabinet Member for Strategic Planning

Councillor Cathy Martyn - Cabinet Member for Housing and Public Safety

Councillor Mary Martin - Cabinet Member for Children and School Attainment

Councillor Brian Ford - Cabinet Member for Adults

Councillor Dale Heenan - Cabinet Member for the Town Centre and Regeneration.
