Swindon's Hindu community will be celebrating Diwali at their temple in Cheney Manor, from 6pm to 9pm on Wednesday 7 November.
Ahead of the event the temple's Chairman, Pradeep Bhardwaj, said: “Festivals hold a very special significance for Indians and play a very important role in uniting people. This is the most festive time of the year when we have several festivals next to each other.
"The festivals of Dussehra and Diwali are celebrated with great fervour to signify the victory of good over evil and the victory of light over darkness, both within us as well as around us. As people adorn their best clothes, illuminate their homes, light up fireworks, share sweets and pleasantries with friends and families, offer prayers for prosperity and good health, prepare mouth-watering dishes and enjoy sumptuous feasts, it’s also a gentle reminder to everyone of the need to illuminate and brighten up the lives of those people who are less fortunate.
"On the auspicious occasion of Diwali, I extend my warmest wishes to everyone in Swindon."
