A festive music festival has been given a financial boost thanks to a regional house-builder.

The Festival of Christmas, in association with Bath Road Methodist Church and STEP Swindon has been awarded £1,000 thanks to Persimmon Homes’ Community Champions initiative.

The annual music festival was a sell-out in a matter of days last year and expects to be popular again this year. The event will help raise crucial funds for the charities.

The charity was awarded the money via Persimmon Homes Community Champion initiative. It is a national programme where charities and groups can apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match cash they have already raised themselves.

STEP Swindon is a local charity supporting young people aged 7-18 who are experiencing isolation and exclusion due to either a lack of social skills, personal circumstances or poverty. The charity provides a safe environment whereby volunteers and staff work creatively to help the children learn essential life and social skills.

Alan Holmes, of Holmes Music and organiser of the event, said: “Christmas is a time for communities to come together and we’re delighted to be hosting our Festival of Christmas again this year."

“We will be raising funds for STEP Swindon, as well as the Bath Road Methodist Church. This year’s event is bound to be a sell-out once again, as we have Kentwood Choir and Swing Birds, a 20-piece female Big Band who recently had a sell-out show at Swindon’s Wyvern Theatre, taking part."

“We’re delighted that Persimmon Homes Wessex are one of our leading sponsors and we’re grateful for the support.”

Pauline Fletcher, sales and marketing director for Persimmon Homes Wessex, said: “We build new homes across Swindon and it’s great to see the local community coming together to support such great causes. Last year’s event was a hit and we know this year’s will be too. We wish them all the best with the event and look forward to hearing how much money they raise.”
