A major funder has been secured for the North Star Village development, SevenCapital has announced.

The developer confirmed the funder ahead of its meeting with the council’s planning committee next week, where it hopes it will receive full planning approval to go ahead with the project.

Over recent months SevenCapital has been working alongside council planners to finalise its application and ensure measures to reduce the impact of extra traffic that the site will generate.

SevenCapital director John Watkins said: “Now we have secured a big funder for the North Star, we just need the planning application to be accepted and we can get to work on making the North Star dream become a reality.

“We’ve taken every measure possible to ensure that our plans for the development will create the major leisure and retail destination that the Swindon community has been waiting so long for, whilst reducing any risk of impact from subsequent increases in road use on completion.”

Councillor Dale Heenan, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for the Town Centre, said: “Securing a funder for the North Star Ski slope and leisure complex is a huge milestone, and there is real momentum behind the project now.

“Getting the road improvements right has been key to the planning application. If approved, then further discussions with Seven Capital on things like how a future Park and Ride scheme would work, will continue. Swindon residents can be reassured everything possible to make this scheme successful is happening.”
