The Good Companions Club was set up by a handful of retired people meeting in each other's houses in 1979. Led by Ann and George Tweed the group then started to meet in the community room at the first Toothill Primary School which they quickly outgrew. They moved to Toothill Community Centre which opened in 1985, pictured in the main image.

In the early 1990s there were nearly 200 members of the club which continued until 2015 when it closed for lack of volunteers to keep it going. It later relaunched as the 50 Shades Club which in turn closed when the community centre shut down.
