An ex-patient at the Great Western Hospital has donated £5,000 of equipment to the Meldon ward after winning a Facebook competition. The equipment includes scales, blood pressure machines and other useful resources to help care for patients on the ward.
Susan Hayward spent some time in ICU last Christmas before being transferred to the Meldon ward. She was so grateful for the care she received from staff on the ward that she wanted to give something back.
She entered a competition on Facebook, run by Medisave, to win a large quantity of medical equipment and was asked to write a comment explaining why she should win.
Susan’s comment read: “If I won this equipment, I would give it to the GWH in Swindon as they saved my life at Christmas and I would love to give something back to them.”
Medicare selected Susan as the winner because of her heartfelt comment thanking the Meldon staff and, on 26 November, she returned to the ward to present the equipment.
“I wanted to win the equipment for Meldon to thank the staff who looked after me. This is a good way for me to give something back,” she said.
