A brand new sports hall, fitness suite and theatre awaits prospective students of Wichelstowe's first secondary school.

Since inviting prospective primary school students to view the development back in May, staff at Wichelstowe's Deanery CE Academy have confirmed that the secondary school's construction has entered the final stages prior to completion.

Since building in East Wichelstowe began back in 2008, the development has secured plans for a retirement village, canal side homes and a dining complex. After planning permission was granted last year, construction work for the Church of England Academy is "really picking up pace" according to the school's principal, Linda Culling.

Linda said: "This is a really exciting time for us, being able to bring outstanding facilities and educational excellence to Swindon."

Due to open in September 2019 The Deanery is set to accommodate more than 1,300 pupils from year 7 to year 13, which will later include a sixth form. Students attending the school will be able to benefit from facilities which will include an all-weather pitch, sports hall, 440 seat theatre, fitness suite, music recording studio and space for wedding venue hire.
