A 15-year-old boy was the victim of an attempted robbery in West Swindon at the weekend.

At approximately 5.10pm on Saturday March 16, a group of five males surrounded the teenager while he was on his bike in the play park behind the Shaw Ridge Leisure Complex.

The group attempted to steal the boys bike, but when he resisted, he was punched in the face and sustained fractures to his eye socket and nose.

A member of the public intervened and assisted the victim and the group left the scene in an unknown direction.

Acting Sgt James Rodriques said: “The group consisted of four white males and one black male -  they were all dressed in black and were wearing balaclavas so it is difficult to say how old they were.

“This was a nasty and unprovoked incident which has left a 15-year-old boy with fractures to his face which have required treatment at hospital.

“We are carrying out a thorough investigation into this incident and we would urge anyone who was in the area at the time of the attack, who may be able to assist our enquiries, to call us on 101 and quote crime reference number 54190026263."

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
