Diane Abbott, the shadow home secretary, was in Swindon on Saturday to show her support for the Unite union’s campaign to save the Honda car plant from closure.

The Labour MP visited the union’s Stratton offices and met with local politicians and activists including Swindon Labour leader Jim Grant.

Last month, Honda made the announcement that the Swindon plant is due to close with the loss of 3,000 local jobs.
