A partial closure order has today been secured for an address in Faringdon Road, Swindon.
The application was made to Swindon Magistrates Court as a result of growing concerns for a vulnerable occupant.
Information has been received from members of the public and local residents which suggested local drug users and drug dealers had been using the address as a base for their criminal activity. A number of complaints had also been made to the local authority about activity at the address and in the nearby alleyway.
As a result of this intelligence, officers sought a partial closure order at court today. This order will be in place for three months – it means that only the occupant and close family members will have access to the property, as well as emergency services and Swindon Borough Council employees. Anyone found at the address who is not authorised may be arrested.
During the three month period, officers will be liaising closely with Swindon Borough Council in regards to the safeguarding of the occupant.
A/Sgt Mason Johnson said: “I am pleased that we have been successful in obtaining this order – it is an excellent piece of legislation that provides police officers with the necessary powers in order to conduct regular welfare checks on the occupant of the address, as well as preventing anyone not mentioned on the order from remaining in the premises.
“The anti-social behaviour that the neighbouring residents have had to endure is not acceptable and I’m hopeful that this order will assist in rectifying the issue.
“I would like to thank the local residents of Faringdon Road for their co-operation and patience whilst this case was brought before the court, this is once again a great example of how police can act upon information received from members of the public whilst also protecting the most vulnerable members of our society.”
