This month life was a beach for many Swindon residents as families vacated to the beach - just in the town centre.
This month inSwindon BID brought the beach back to Swindon's Wharf Green as part of the new Swindon Town Centre Festival
Back for its second year, from 1 to 8 August, the Urban Beach at Wharf Green proved popular amongst residents, with families lounging on seaside deck chairs and kids making sand castles.
Alison Onslow visited the beach with her granddaughter. She said: “Great afternoon with my granddaughter at the Urban Beach. This has been such a great holiday attraction and so good that it was free.
"We also spent time shopping and having lunch in town which we might not have done otherwise. Brilliant. Thank you.”
inSwindon BID CEO, Di Powell, added: “We are overwhelmed with the positive feedback and support for this year’s Urban Beach Experience, not only from our visitors but from local businesses and strategic partners. Hundreds of children and visitors joined us daily to take part in a range of free activity.
"The events we produce are so important in bringing the community together, increasing footfall and spend for our businesses and encouraging local people to love the town they live in. Our next event is the annual Student Lockdown, taking place on Monday 30 September."
The Mayor of Swindon Councillor Kevin Parry, Chief Constable Kier Pritchard and Inspector Dave Hobman also headed to Swindon's beach this summer. Constable Kier Pritchard tweeted: “Great initiative. Spent a few valuable minutes here today as part of wider town centre patrol and community engagement. Met some great families and partner agency staff too. Well done all.”
Organised by inSwindon BID Company, the new Swindon Town Centre Festival celebrates everything on offer throughout the Summer holidays in the town centre, with more than 30 free events planned including Wacky Wednesdays at The Brunel Shopping Centre from 11am to 3pm throughout August and the Summer Garden at Regent Circus which takes place until 2 September.
