Drunk driver nearly two times over limit gets 17 months driving ban

A Swindon man has been banned from driving for 17 months after being stopped while nearly twice the drink-drive limit.

Matthew Wilkinson, 33, of Mustang Way, Swindon, was charged with drink driving and driving without a valid MOT certificate after being stopped on 19 March on Corporation Street, in the town.

He had been spotted driving with defective brake and tail lights and weaving across the road before being stopped by a police officer. A breath test revealed he had 65mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath - the legal limit is 35mg.

Wilkinson pleaded guilty to drink driving and driving without a valid MOT certificate when he appeared before magistrates yesterday (6 November). He was banned from driving for 17 months, and offered a rehabilitation course, ordered to pay £415 fine and £310 court costs. He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £41.
