Police have released a CCTV image of a woman they would like to speak to in connection with an incident of fraud in Swindon.

It happened at The Range shop, in Fleming Way, at around 2.10pm on 13 October 2019.

A woman entered the shop and purchased an item. During the transaction she distracted and confused the member of staff by repeatedly changing her order, which resulted in her paying significantly less than the correct amount.

She then went to customer services and got a full refund.

The suspect is described as having dark hair in a ponytail, and was wearing a long skirt and black cardigan. She was believed to be in her mid 40s, around 5ft 6ins tall, and spoke with an eastern European accent.

PC Pedro Wiltshire, from Swindon CPT Support, said: “We believe there have been a number of similar incidents in Swindon recently, where a suspect has used distraction tactics to scam members of staff in shops.

“We would advise businesses to be alert and cautious, and would urge anyone who recognises the woman in the picture, or the woman herself, to call us.”

Anyone with information should call PC Wiltshire on 101, quoting crime reference 54190101863. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
