Three people were arrested last night following an aggravated burglary in Swindon.

At approximately 3.30am yesterday morning (19/11), police were called to Shepphard Street following a report that two people had broken in to an address and were in possession of knives.

They demanded cash and then stole several items of clothing before fleeing the scene.

Enquiries were carried out by officers yesterday and as part of these enquiries a Volkswagen Passat was stopped on the A419 at midnight and a search was carried out of the car.

A number of items were seized including an axe, body armour, an imitation firearm, knuckle duster, cash and several mobile phones.

A 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of:

- Possession of an imitation firearm

- Possession of an offensive weapon

- Section 18 GBH

- Aggravated burglary

- Dangerous driving

- Driving whilst disqualified

- Driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs

- Failing to provide

- Criminal damage

A second man, 38, who was a passenger in the vehicle was arrested on suspicion of possession of an imitation firearm, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of a class A drug.

A third man, aged 30, was arrested from an address in Swindon last night on suspicion of aggravated burglary and assaulting a police officer.

All three remain in custody at Gablecross for further questioning.

Det Sgt Adrian Bray said: “This burglary was understandably a scary experience for the victims. Through a number of enquiries conducted yesterday we were able to stop a vehicle on the A419.

“Once the vehicle had been stopped, the driver rammed police vehicles on multiple occasions in a bid to escape and then refused to co-operate with officers.

“A number of items of interest were seized from inside the vehicle – some of these had the potential to cause serious harm to individuals and I am pleased that we have been able to take these off the streets.”
