Now that the new year is here, there are many exciting events to look forward to this year. From sports, fairs and entertainment, residents of Swindon will have a full agenda of activity throughout 2018. So, let’s take a closer look at some of the highlights that no one will want to miss. With several events lined up in the upcoming months, rugby lovers are in for a treat as they will be able to enjoy a lunch with some of their favorite legends in this sport as hosted by the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Swindon. And of course, it has to do with the approaching Six Nations Championship. Just this week, eight uncapped players were announced to participate in the February 4th match that will take place in Italy. The Six Nations fixtures, which will be of national interest, are sure to keep many of us busy until mid-March. As this event wraps up and the cold weather gives us a break, both companies and future graduates can look forward to the JobFest, which will take place on March 6th, and can become the ideal opportunity to find the right internship for the summer. Those thinking about where to study after that should not miss the chance to go to the open-door day at Lackham College, which will take place on February 3rd. Art lovers will have much on their plates too, with the many Swindon Museum Art Gallery exclusive exhibitions that have been planned for this year. Those who haven’t had a chance to visit “Face the Music: the Winslow Collection of Instruments” yet can still discover the musical instruments it hosts until March 3rd. From April to September, the museum will be showing a series of British paintings made during the interwar period, bringing together the work of acclaimed artists like Ben Nicholson and Christopher Wood. Moreover, starting in September, those visiting the gallery will also be able to learn about the Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry. Make sure to check out the Swindon Museum website to stay informed about upcoming exhibits. As far as music goes, Swindon has an exciting concert agenda for 2018, which includes performances by Craig Charles, Frank Turner, Beth Sherburn and even a Lazy Sunday Afternoon on February 18th with Mr. Love & Justice. However, the big musical event will take place during the summer, with KT Tunstall, the Pretenders, and Simple Minds playing at Lydiard Park. Comedy lovers will be happy to know that the multifaceted Jason Manford will be also be visiting Swindon on November 23rd. Those interested in boosting their company’s potential or just learning more about different aspects of owning a business can look forward to the “Online Marketing Made Easy” (February 6) and “Social Media Made Easy” (February 13 and other dates) workshops coordinated by the Business West Enterprise. On the other hand, the PopUp Business School - Swindon: Making Money from Your Passion event is ideal for whoever is considering a career change or becoming self-employed. Business owners might also learn something at the Employment Law and Intellectual Property seminar organised by the Swindon Borough Council on February 1st. We’ll make sure to keep you posted about other business events as the year unfolds. In the meantime, make sure you jot down the most important rendezvous, sports, musical, work-related or artistic events as 2018 promises to be a fun and eventful year.
