To celebrate its second birthday, care home Abbey House in Swindon is throwing open its doors to the wider community for an afternoon of activities for all the family.

During the open day, Sunday 8 July, visitors, residents and their families can enjoy a fun-packed afternoon including a BBQ, a variety of traditional stalls, a tombola, glitter tattoos and sand art, survival games and much more. There will also be opportunities to be taken around the home and ask questions to the staff, as well as tuck into delicious treats from the cake sale. To put everyone in the party mood, guests can enjoy live music from Bandantree at 2pm. The event will end at 5pm.

Kinga Dabrowska, customer relations co-ordinator at Abbey House, which is run by social care charity Milestones Trust, said: “Everyone is buzzing with excitement and getting involved in preparations for our open day. Residents have been coming up with ideas and designing decorations, and families are looking forward to spending the day with loved ones.

“We are very proud of what we do, and we want everyone to embrace the atmosphere of fun, passion and care that is at the heart of Abbey House. We like to be a social hub for the local community and occasions like this create great opportunities to introduce our setting to new friends and neighbours.”

This celebration is the latest in a series of community events at Abbey House. The care home regularly organises fun days for schools and groups, encouraging them to get involved with local initiatives.

Milestones Trust supports people with mental health challenges, dementia and learning disabilities. The charity runs 44 residential and nursing care homes across the South West, including Abbey House, a new, modern nursing and residential care home in North Swindon with a focus on older people and dementia care.
