Bus operator Stagecoach West has announced changes to its Swindon services.

The changes will see increased frequency of the 55 between Swindon and Chippenham at the start of June and the axing of the number three service between Abbey Meads and Great Western Hospital from August 12.

In April, Stagecoach started the service 3 between Abbey Meads and Great Western Hospital via the town centre. This route created new links in previously un-served areas. During the first few weeks, positive feedback was received from customers using the service and the route saw more than 13,000 customer journeys a week being made.

In May, Thamesdown Transport changed many of their routes in Swindon including the introduction of a new service along the same route as Stagecoach route 3.

Managing Director Rupert Cox said: “We started the service 3 to help link communities that were underserved by public transport, but since we started the route another bus operator in the region has made changes that reflect our own. Customers in Swindon have now started to see a negative impact on their communities, due to the amount of buses, so we’ve taken the decision to cease the 3 service.”
