A march took place in Swindon town centre today (Saturday 2 July) to protest against the UK leaving the European Union.

The march was organised by Tracy Michaels, of Oakhurst, and it took place at 11am from beneath the big screen in Wharf Green to Swindon Town Hall.

Tracy said: "They're having marches across the country today and I just thought that Swindon needed to show its support as well.

"The referendum result was a complete shock and it's important now that we show public support so that the politicians have a rethink.

"It's been proven now that the Leave campaign was run in a dishonest way and that there are a lot of people who now feel that they have been lied to as the politicians backtrack on their promises."

The march coincided with others taking place around the country this weekend, with thousands attending a rally outside Parliament at midday to protest against leaving the EU.

A march called Swindon Unites is taking place from Wharf Green on Sunday, July 10, at 2pm. The anti-racism march wants both leave and remain voters to come together to show that as a town Swindon is against racism.
