After complaining that very few contributions had been made
to our Birthday Appeal in the last issue, we are happy to
report that the situation improved before Christmas when about
£35 in total was received. Thank you all who donated; the money
will be put to good use.
As you can see this issue is The BIG one offering more for your ^J
money, or at least your readership. Firstly we have an exclusive!
Through the Link/Focus you, our readers, have the chance to name a pub. Wessex
Taverns are using us as a way of getting suggestions - so get your thinking caps on
and send your ideas to them. See below for details. Secondly, we have the most
detailed information on the election - A Welcome to the Borough from the Mayor of
Thamesdown, a profile on the candidates standing for election on March 19th and a
section on what they stand for. Its all here you know. Do you think Rupert Murdoch

A NAME

The 22nd of May will see the opening of Swindon's latest pub in Toothill. Designed
by architects from Lancashire, it will provide locals with many facilities including a
skittle alley, pool table, darts area and a children's room. Hot and cold lunches will

served and in the evening a cold buffet will be available. A rich, warm atmosphere
has been created by building the pub with secondhand bricks specially imported
from Cheshire. The interior will have a distinctive South American flavour with lots
of natural wood and a very unusual bar front made from Mexican tea trays! All it
