BBC Points West is today (Wednesday 10 May) launching “What’s Your Story?” a project inviting young filmmakers (aged 16 – 30) living in the West Country to tell their story.

The “What’s Your Story?” project will see films aired on BBC Points West, its social media sites and on the BBC iPlayer.

Ten of the best films will also be screened at a special event at the Watershed in Bristol on Tuesday 19 September as part of the Encounters Festival, the UK's leading short film and animation festival.

Steph Marshall, Head of BBC West, said: “Points West is 60 this year and to celebrate we wanted to not just look back - but also forward.  We want to hear from the next generation of viewers and we want them use the latest portable hand held smart technology to tell the stories that matter to them. It can be anything – something to celebrate or something that makes you angry, or even an issue you feel doesn’t get enough attention. We’re really pleased to be working together with the Encounters Film Festival which has helped launch the careers of many directors and producers.”

The films must be 90 seconds or less and be recorded on a smartphone, tablet or small camera. The story can be about anyone or anything providing there's a connection to the West Country. Perhaps your neighbour has a secret talent you think the West should know about? Is there something in your local area that is frustrating you? What do you find intriguing about where you live? The films can include interviews, subtitles, animation or illustration. You don't have to be an expert film maker. The most important thing is that you’re telling an interesting story.

Budding story-tellers can enter and upload films at www.bbc.co.uk/pointswest where you will also find the terms and conditions. Films can be submitted until 31/07/17 but the sooner you enter, the sooner your film may be shown.

“What’s Your Story?” is part of BBC Points West 60th anniversary celebrations, marking sixty years since the first BBC regional television news service was launched here in the West.
