Police are investigating a burglary in Swindon during which a number of sentimental war medals were stolen.

The incident occurred this morning at an address in Beaulieu Close.

A window was forced open and a selection of miniature war medals were stolen. Five of the medals are identical, bar the dates, and reflect service in Oman.

PC Kevin Payne, of the Swindon North Community Policing Team, said: “I find it abhorrent that someone could take items which obviously held in previous regard by the elderly owner. Medals like these are a symbol of bravery and active service in the armed forces. For someone to take these from a person who has served their country is beyond comprehension and I would urge the public to get in touch if they have any information about the break in, or if they have seen the medals for sale.

“It is possible that the suspect will boast about their find, and I hope that even someone who knows who is responsible would realise the impact of this loss and contact us.”

If you have any information in relation to the medals, or you saw someone acting suspiciously in the Beaulieu Close area of Swindon between 9.30am and midday on September 23, call 101 and quote crime reference number 54190094377.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
