Two building firms working at Swindon's Wichelstowe development are extolling the virtues of moving home in Autumn.

They say that although doing so might seem unusual, Autumn could actually be one of the smartest times of the year to snap up a new home, especially for those who want to be settled in time for the festive season and are in a position to move quickly.

The Wichelstowe development is being built by Barratt Homes, building at Orchards View and Wichel Fields, and David Wilson Homes in partnership with Swindon Borough Council, and will deliver 3,000 new homes over 20 years, along with new schools and community facilities.

The 250-hectare site on the southern edge of Swindon will include extensive open spaces, nature conservation areas, playing pitches and allotments.

Louise Ware, sales director for Barratt David Wilson Homes South West, said: “Anyone ready to move quickly may find now is the perfect time to make significant savings on a new home and also ensure they’re settled in time for the festive season.”

The developers advise:

- Act Fast, Save Big. Doing your research on local housebuilders and getting pre-qualified for a mortgage shows you’re a serious buyer so when the right place comes along, you can capitalise on those special deals at the end of the year. These are often limited, so being ready to act means you can take advantage of the best opportunities before they disappear.  Buyers who are organised and motivated to move fast are the ones most likely to secure the greatest deals this autumn.

- Ready-to-Move-In Homes, Ready for a Deal. Towards the end of the year, housebuilders often offer special promotions on homes to attract and entice buyers. For instance, there are eight homes which will be ready to move in to for Christmas at Orchards Rise at Wichelstowe and six homes at Buckley Gardens in Melksham with incentives worth up to £40,750 and £21,300 respectively. These offers include deposit contributions, stamp duty, Part Exchange options and upgraded kitchens.

- Additional Tips for Autumn Buyers. Figuring out what you really want in a new home will help you make decisions faster. Also, connect with local housebuilders who can give you a heads-up on upcoming deals. Being flexible about different types of properties can really widen your options and boost your chances of bagging a great deal.
