David Wilson Homes says it remains proud to offer a dedicated Deposit Contribution Scheme for service personnel.

The firm, whose developments include Orchard Rise at Wichelstowe, provides a deposit boost to ease the path to home ownership for individuals and families within the armed forces community.

It says the initiative is part of its overall recognition of the commitment and sacrifices made by members of the armed forces.

This year alone, almost of quarter of David Wilson Homes South West’s properties were purchased by key workers, with armed forces personnel accounting for a significant portion of these buyers.

Duncan Foster, the site manager at David Wilson Homes’ Orchards Rise development at Wichelstowe, worked as a royal engineer and search operative in the Royal Engineers EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) team during his five-year military career, leaving for a more settled home life, to start a family and to pursue a career in the building industry.

He said: “My time in the military has set me up well for a life in construction. Communication, determination, adaptability, teamwork, discipline and mental robustness are all essential in the armed forces and are skills I rely on daily to carry out my job to the high standards I set myself and my team.

“As the nation takes time this weekend to pause to remember the service and sacrifice of the armed forces, I’m incredibly proud to work for a business that is committed to provide practical support and invest in a future that reflects their contributions to the nation.

“The Deposit Contribution Scheme is a way of saying ‘thank you’ to members of the armed forces. We’re aware of the unique challenges they face, including frequent relocations and long absences from home.

"With this scheme, we hope to make homeownership more achievable for them, and allow them to lay down roots, while recognising the invaluable role they play in our society.”

With the Armed Forces Deposit Contribution Scheme, military servicemen and women are offered a five percent deposit contribution, up to £15,000. All UK Armed Forces personnel in the Army, Navy, or RAF are eligible for the scheme, with those set to retire this year remaining eligible for up to 12 months following their retirement date.

The scheme forms part of Barratt David Wilson Homes’ broader commitment to the communities it serves. Through thoughtful incentives for key workers, the company aims to support those who protect, heal, and build communities, including service personnel, NHS staff, teachers, and first responders.

The Wichelstowe development is being built by Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes in partnership with Swindon Borough Council, and will deliver 3,000 new homes along with new schools and community facilities.
