Financial adviser Dave Southby has sponsored the Wroughton Tornadoes U11 football club, that he played for as a child.

The 30-year-old, who lives in Wroughton, is now sponsoring the Wroughton Tornadoes U11 football team.

His support will cover the cost of the team’s kit for the current North Wiltshire U11 Development Red League season.

Dave Southby played for the club between the ages of 12 -18 and says he knows from experience what sponsorship means to youth sports teams.

He explains: “As a club, we didn’t have loads of money, so things like getting a new kit and training jackets came from sponsorship money. Ever since I started my business, I always wanted to give back to the club because I know how much of a difference it can make as it made a huge difference to me.”

Dave was presented with an opportunity to help out when a parent of one of the players reached out to him on social media.

He said: “They made it clear that the team needed a main kit sponsor and I jumped at the opportunity.”

Peter Mannion, coach, commented: “Having sponsors for local community football teams like Wroughton Youth FC really helps the teams flourish and feel connected to local people.

“Speaking with Dave Southby, I can see the pride that sponsoring our team, the U11 Tornadoes, has brought him.

"We're extremely grateful for the sponsorship money and we've managed to put these funds towards training tops for the team as well as a logo on the home shirts.

"We can't thank Dave enough for helping to support us - he even came out to watch us win a match recently!”

Dave added that this might not be the last sponsorship he agrees to: “I’m in the process of potentially supporting another Wroughton Youth team.”

Giving back to the community is said to be natural for Dave, who is undertaking several activities throughout the year to raise money for Swindon & Gloucestershire MIND charity, as well as donating a percentage of his business profits to the charity.

Dave continued: “I’m taking part in a walking marathon from Stonehenge to Avebury in April and running a charity golf day in June. My business also tries to give back to the local community by running free drop-in sessions at the Ellendune Community Centre, helping people with any finance questions or worries they may have.”

The local businessman set up his company two years ago. He is a partner with St James’ Place and helps individuals, families and small business owners to manage their wealth effectively.

He specialises in working with people who live in Swindon and North Wiltshire. To find out more about him, individuals can visit https://partnership.sjp.co.uk/partner/davesouthby
