A new event has been announced for technology fans and people who work in the tech space in Swindon.

Created by Fluff Software, Swindon Software is a bi-monthly event that encourages the developer community in Swindon to come together and share ideas. It is based at The Workshed, which is the home of the Fluff team.

Founder Scott Gulliver said after a session: “As developers ourselves, we recognised there was a need for a relaxed and informal meet-up where we could all share ideas. It’s especially prevalent since the rise in working from home.

"It was great to have so many people together on the night discussing their ideas and getting excited about the future of tech in our town.”

Scott and his team are regulars at various software meet-ups around the country, so he decided it was time to bring something similar to his home town.

He says the event aligns to the ever-expanding ‘tech-scape’ in Swindon, which has become a hub for tech startups and larger tech centric businesses following huge sector growth in the area.

Research by Whitecap Consulting, commissioned by Tech South West, shows the South West tech sector is on track to grow by almost £20 billion in terms of gross added value by 2026. This is coupled with the creation of around 125,000 tech jobs.

The region has the fifth largest tech sector of the 12 in the UK and already has around 170,000workers in tech sectors.

The first Swindon event included speakers discussing data engineering and fantasy football as well as the MyNavy app created by Great State. The event was also sponsored by SETsquared Partnership.

With the success and positive feedback from the first event, Scott has decided to make it a regular meet up and is hoping to build the community further over the coming months.

People can join via https://www.meetup.com/swindon-software/ and be notified of future events.

The next event is scheduled for Thursday, 25 August. It will feature two new speakers whose names are currently under wraps, but there will be updates on Fluff's social media channels.
