An award-winning specialist security provider involved in the mass mobilisation of former military personnel to support the national roll-out of Covid-19 testing centres has launched a new initiative to deliver temporary labour and recruitment services to businesses.

With millions of people still on furlough or having lost their jobs, the UK faces dramatic recruitment challenges to deal with the ‘new normal’ of getting people back into employment, while at the same time co-existing with coronavirus and its variants.

Swindon-based SSGC, which has mobilised military veterans to staff Covid-19 test centres and provide testing support at under-pressure schools across the UK, has launched WLTS, a start-up business that has already secured a £40 million contract to provide personnel to Comensura, a market leader in managing supplies of temporary, permanent and contract labour.

WLTS specialises in handling complex vetting requirements such as DBS checks, BPSS, the government baseline security standard, and BS7858, the security benchmark approved by the British Standards Institute (BSI), through its own market-leading bespoke automated solution.

A signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant (AFC), an agreement to support veterans getting back into ‘civvy street’, WLTS will provide instant frontline services as Britain slowly emerges from lockdown.

David Stubbs, managing director of SSGC, which last year won a prestigious national award for its work with Serco managing Covid-19 testing centres on behalf of the Department of Health and Social Care, said WLTS was part of the post-pandemic ‘normalisation’ process.

He said: “As the national requirements have changed, so has our offering, which is why the services provided by WLTS are focussed on helping Britain get back to work.

“It specialises in trusted and rapid mobilisation of personnel that goes beyond testing for Covid-19 to the heart of what the nation needs to return to a form of normality.

“We’ve been involved in mobilising veterans to support the lateral flow devices in schools, but the offer is now much wider as we come out of the other side of the pandemic – from utilities to healthcare, no industry or sector is immune from a need for good quality personnel.

“For example, with many businesses in the hospitality, conference and events market looking to re-open once they are allowed to, they will need experienced and vetted marshalling and stewarding personnel to help keep attendees and delegates safe and secure.

“Equally, from logistics businesses needing agency staff as a result of the explosion in online sales to corporates upscaling temporary drivers, cleaners and administrators as they reopen, the WLTS service can provide everything from the background checks to the actual feet on the ground.”

SSGC has launched WLTS to take a ‘deeper dive’ approach to recruitment needs as the UK recovers.

Operations director Demelza Staples added: “The service can also reach out to HR professionals needing contingent labour support to get hold of a wide range of staff, rather than having to go through various temp agencies – the technology and the service provided support all of those requirements.”
