The UK government has awarded Swindon based RWE, one of the world’s leading renewable energy companies, the highest badge of honour for supporting the Armed Forces community.
RWE is one of only three energy sector employers to achieve gold and the award is the highest badge of honour the UK Government can award an Armed Forces employer.
The award was received by RWE’s Jamie Lindsay and Marcus Peters, during a ceremony held on Thursday 28 November, at the iconic Churchill War Rooms in London.
The Defence Employer Recognition Scheme recognises the positive role that employers play in supporting former armed forces personnel and their families into meaningful working life, and inspiring others to do the same.
It encompasses bronze, silver and gold awards for employer organisations that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to defence and armed forces communities, and which align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant.
Within this year’s cohort, RWE moved up from silver to become one of only three energy sector employers to attain the gold award, along with nearly 200 employers of all sizes and sectors across the UK.
Tom Glover, RWE UK Country Chair, said: “Our pledge to fairness and respect for those who serve, and their families, is reinforced by achieving this gold award. It’s a great honour and we’re proud to support those who serve our country by bringing their skills, dedication and experience to our workforce.
“Receiving the Gold Award is a significant achievement, but it also challenges us to continue building a working environment that allows ex-Armed Forces members, reservists, Cadet Force Volunteers – and their families – to thrive.
“As we look to the future, we remain committed to expanding our support to the Armed Forces community and offering challenging and rewarding careers.”
RWE currently directly employs more than 100 people with a link to the Armed Forces Community in the UK and offers high quality jobs across the length and breadth of the country.
