Changes to some of Swindon's bus services have been announced by Stagecoach West.

According to the firm, the altered timings will provide improved punctuality for customers. They will come into effect on Sunday, 28 May.

Managing director Rachel Geliamassi said: “We’re constantly reviewing routes, services, and passenger habits.

"Following these changes to services we expect our customers using these services to notice an improvement in timekeeping on their journey with us.

“Passenger data has also highlighted that some of the early morning and evening journeys on Stagecoach services 7, 9 and 10 are lightly used and therefore these trips will be removed.

"Reducing a service is always something that we consider carefully before taking action but unfortunately these services are no longer sustainable in their current form where revenue from passengers is incredibly low and does not cover operating costs.

"Our only option is to withdraw journeys used the least to ensure sustained connections for our communities.”

Timetables for Stagecoach West services 7 (Highworth - Lower Stratton – Swindon), 9 (Wroughton - Old Town – Swindon) and 10 (Freshbrook – Link Centre – Swindon – Upper Stratton – Kingsdown) will be amended throughout to ensure services run on time.

Changes to service 9 have also been designed to provide an improved combined frequency through Wichelstowe with Swindon Bus Company’s service 11, providing up to 4 buses an hour to and from Swindon.

Following a recent tendering exercise, Stagecoach West has been confirmed as the preferred bidder for Wiltshire Council’s tendered bus routes 46A, 48, 48A, X46, X48, 53 and 80.

There will be no change to the timetable for service 53 which will continue to run every day except Sundays and Public Holidays

Services 46/48 will see no change to the timetable on Monday to Friday, but fewer journeys will operate on Saturdays with no weekend buses to/from Swindon serving Chilton Foliat or Hungerford.

Service 80 between Tidworth and Swindon will also see a slightly reduced service on Saturdays and there will be some minor changes to weekday timings to improve reliability.

Additional funding has also been secured from Swindon Borough Council to enable Stagecoach to continue running service 57 in its current form between South Marston and Tadpole Garden Village.
