This Valentine’s Day, local independent photo retailer Marlborough Photo Services is sharing the love by revealing their top three tips for capturing – and printing – the perfect Valentine’s Day shot.

Pete Davies, owner of at Marlborough Photo Services, a PHOTO by Fujifilm partner at 35 High Street in Marlborough, said: “Valentine’s Day is the perfect season for photography – whether you’re having a movie night in or popping the big question, there’s no shortage of moments to capture.

“Our in-store photo printing services can quickly transform images into beautiful keepsakes — such as richly coloured framed photos, or photo books to showcase a couple’s favourite moments together over the years. Here are our top three ways to capture the special day.”

  • Experiment with moody lighting

With Valentine’s Day being centred around affection, utilising moody lighting can help to create a romantic ambience in photos. Candlelight and low-light lamps naturally cast a warm, flattering glow that adds a soft and intimate touch.

Ensure the camera or phone has the white balance turned off, as this will automatically remove the warmth and atmosphere from the picture.

Rather than letting those heartfelt images lie forgotten in a camera roll, consider giving them the attention they deserve by turning them into wall art. A canvas print can transform a dreamy couple's photo into the focal point of any home, while framed prints enhance soft colours and intimate details when printed on Fujifilm paper.

  • Use colour and movement

Valentine’s Day is filled with colour and texture – think rose petals and gold jewellery. To elevate the photo into something unforgettable, throw handfuls of petals in the air for a dynamic, love-soaked backdrop.

These action shots look fantastic in photo books, telling stories of romantic milestones page by page in a fun and comical way. Whether shooting on a mirrorless camera or a smartphone, investing in a few handy items can make a real difference.

A tripod will help ensure everyone is in frame, making it easier to plan poses, and capturing movement using a timer means there won’t be any rushing or guessing where to stand!

  • Embrace being lovebirds

Valentine’s Day offers plenty of fun photo opportunities, from capturing proposals to baking sweet treats together at home. These themed photos are ideal for personalised keepsakes, from calendars which mark the year with memorable dates, to mugs which serve as reminders of your loved ones.

“Printed photos from previous Valentine’s Days can also be used creatively around the home. Consider a romantic gallery wall of framed portraits, or a display of the first Valentine’s date compared to the most recent, for a personal touch.
