A children’s charity which launched this year in Wiltshire, is inviting local businesses to a special networking event aimed at introducing its important work to the community.
Jessie May, which cares for terminally ill children within their own homes, was launched in April. Working in partnership with Naomi House, the charity helps look after 28 children in the area, providing specialist nurses who give medical and respite support as well as bereavement counselling for families.
The event, hosted by Excalibur Communications in Swindon, will take place on Tuesday 29 November and will introduce the charity’s ‘Caring at Work’ initiative to local businesses.
The scheme asks organisations to raise £1,000 for the cause, helping to sponsor a nurse who will care for up to 10 terminally ill children in the area.
James Phipps, CEO of Excalibur Communications, has been supporting Jessie May since its launch in Wiltshire.
He said: “We are delighted to be hosting this event on behalf of Jessie May. I have seen first-hand the outstanding work the charity and its nurses do to enhance the lives of local families living with terminally ill children and so I am passionate about other businesses lending their support too.
“It’s been a great privilege to help Jessie May get started in Swindon and Wiltshire but more work needs to be done to ensure all families who need their help, can get it. I’m encouraging all local businesses to come along to this event and find out more.”
The event will kick off with a cheque presentation from Excalibur Communications to Jessie May, followed by a networking opportunity and the chance to hear more from Jessie May nurses and the families they care for.
Jessie May head of fundraising, Julian Withers, said: “We’re really looking forward to introducing ourselves to Wiltshire businesses who might be interested in partnering with us.
“The Younite Foundation was kind enough to support Jessie May, among others, with the Balls Bounce Back record-breaking challenge – and the support we received from the community was fantastic.
“At present we care for 28 children in the area but we’d love to support more families who need our help. I’d like to say a huge thank you to James Phipps and Excalibur Communications for all of their wonderful support this year and we look forward to hosting this event alongside them.”
Jessie May cares for children with terminal illness within their own homes in Bristol, Bath, South Gloucestershire, North Somerset and Wiltshire. It costs around £1,200,000 to provide this care yearly and as the charity is almost entirely dependent on public support fundraisers like this are essential.
