A Swindon charity is celebrating the volunteers who make a difference to the lives of brain injury survivors in the area.

Headway Swindon, a charity that supports brain injury survivors and their families, has been thanking the people who give up their free time to run activities and provide support to brain injury survivors during Volunteers' Week.

The charity hosted a tea party where brain injury survivors made flower arrangements with messages of thanks on the leaves, and enjoyed cakes kindly donated by Dorcan Morrison’s.

Amy Smith has been volunteering at the charity since October 2015 and works as a speech and language therapist. "Headway is a fantastic place and everyone works so hard," she said. "The clients work to improve their skills and the staff and volunteers to ensure everyone is supported in the right way for them. It's so rewarding, I will certainly be here for many years to come."

Headway Swindon is calling on more people to make a difference using their time and skills.

Chief Executive Jane Weston said: "If it wasn't for our wonderful volunteers we wouldn't be able to provide brain injury survivors with all the activities and support they need. They make such a difference to the lives of our clients and we can't thank them enough for all the hours they put in. Volunteering is a really rewarding experience, and it can really help people looking to improve their CV. People who are retired can put their skills to good use while meeting other people. Just spending an hour or two doing something for others can make you feel really good about yourself."
