Volunteers sought by community hall charity

By Swindon Link - 23 August 2021

Eastcott Community Organisation is looking for new volunteers.

The charity, which looks after the community hall in Savernake Street, needs a community centre gardener and a key holder.
A spokesperson said: "Volunteering has many benefits for the community as a whole. Here at Eastcott Community Organisation we are run by volunteers and have seen, first-hand, the advantages of volunteering for the individual and the community.
"We run events from our building that promote a sense of community and wellbeing, as well as rent out the halls to hiring groups. There is a wide variety of activities available each week.

"We are expecting the use of the halls to increase in September, both for regular groups and private hires, and we are looking to recruit volunteers to help us keep our community centre looking great and running smoothly."

The Volunteer Community Centre Gardener will be asked to:
- Keep the grounds looking neat all year round by weeding, dead heading and planting
- Keep paved areas and paths clear of weeds and leaves when needed
- Follow all health and safety procedures
- Look after their own safety
- Work with trustees of the charity and other volunteers to create and maintain a welcoming, well-presented space
The charity says it would be ideal for the person taking up this role to hold keys to the building, and as such have a DBS certificate - obtainable at no personal cost. The process and timeline for obtaining one this can be discussed during the application process.
The Volunteer Key Holder will be asked to:
- Open and close the Centre for hirers at stated times on the rota
- Complete the open/close checklist to keep the building safe
- Look after their own safety
- Help with the set-up of events if willing and able, such as by setting out tables and PA systems
Volunteer Key Holders have DBS certificates and can be required to volunteer alone.
Volunteers are invited to get involved in all areas of the charity if they wish, such as helping out at events and leaflet distribution.
People interested in either position are invited to email mstephanie@eastcottcommunity.org
