Swindon-based accountancy and business advisory firm Monahans is hosting its 30th annual sports quiz on Thursday 16 November.

The quiz, first held in 1994, will raise vital funds for Swindon Parkinson's charity.

It will be held at Swindon Town FC, bringing businesses and community members together to get their thinking caps on for a good cause. Over the course of 30 years the firm has raised over £40,000 for charities in the region.

This year participants will even be mingling with some famous faces including seven-time British Champion jump jockey John Francome, who has been an avid supporter of the event, and will not only be competing but presenting prizes to the lucky (or skilled) winners.

Dave Roblin, a retired long-standing Monahans employee, will again be taking the role of quizmaster, as he has throughout the event’s long history.

This year’s charity – Swindon Parkinson’s charity – provides information, friendship, and support to local people with Parkinson’s, their families and carers in the Swindon and wider area.

This includes providing regular social events to help people keep active, both mentally and physically, including skittles, outings, picnics, talks and meals out, and acts as a crucial lifeline to those whose lives are affected by the condition.

Steve Elliott, Partner at Monahans, said: "It’s always been important to us to raise funds for an amazing charity that benefits those in the local area. And it’s amazing to see how this one annual event of trivia and laughter can add up over time.

"We’re so proud to have raised over £40,000 over the last 30 years but it’s also brilliant to have so many local figures under one roof.

"Having businesses and individuals come together for a good cause always brings a fantastic atmosphere and serves as an important reminder of the power of community spirit.”

Many of the employees at Monahans are local to Swindon, and the firm has always striven to stand ‘shoulder to shoulder’ with its clients, working to understand their individual needs and supporting them to thrive.

Having a strong presence within the community is not only crucial to being known as experts in their field but also as friendly, approachable and trusted accountants and business advisors, who go above and beyond.

To celebrate 30 years of quizzing, Monahans is hoping to host a record 50 teams, encouraging businesses and locals to come along for an evening of drinks, festivities and friendly competition.

The event will take place at The Legends Lounge, Swindon Town FC, at 7pm on Thursday 16t November, and teams - of up to four - can sign up at www.monahans.co.uk/publications/sportsquiz-23
