Members of the public are being encouraged to jump on board for Prospect Hospice’s second annual paddle board fundraising event along the River Thames this October.
Taking place on 1 October, the event welcomes participants of all skill levels, from beginners to experienced paddle boarders and everyone will be accompanied along the route by a qualified instructor.
For those who would like to give the challenge a try but do not own the equipment, there will be a limited number of boards/life jackets and paddles to borrow. These individuals are being asked to make sure they sign up early to secure their place and equipment.
A spokesperson from the charity said: "This year's Prospect Paddle is a unique opportunity for individuals and teams to enjoy a day of fun and adventure on the water while raising money for the charity.
"Participants will paddle 11 kilometres down the River Thames, starting at the Red Lion at Castle Easton and finishing at the beautiful riverside in Lechlade."
Sabrina, who participated in last year’s Prospect Paddle, added: “Taking part in the first prospect paddle last year was a lovely experience. At the time we had just lost my mother in law to pancreatic cancer and the hospice had supported us so much I felt I wanted to give something back to them.
"On the day the volunteers and other participants were all so friendly and supportive and we had a lot of fun navigating a part of the Thames I hadn’t been down before. It was very well organised and lovely to feel part of a community on the day. I cannot wait to be involved again this year and raise some vital funds for such a worthwhile cause.”
Registration for the event is now open and costs £20 per person.
Participants are being asked to set a fundraising target and to ask friends, family, and colleagues to sponsor their efforts. Every penny raised goes towards helping the hospice to provide outstanding care to people living with terminal illnesses as well as providing support for their families.
