Muscular Dystrophy UK is looking for people to don their capes and join in the fun at the Superhero Series Winter Wonderwheels event at Dorney Lake, Windsor, on Sunday 2 December.
The fully inclusive race takes place at Dorney Lake, with 1km, 5km and 10km distances to choose from. Participants can cycle, walk, run, push, or anything in-between.
Money raised from the event will go towards helping scientists find treatments and cures, as well as providing essential support to the 70,000 people living with muscle-wasting conditions in the UK. Muscle-wasting conditions cause muscles to weaken and waste over time, leading to increasingly severe disability. Some conditions affect the heart muscle and vital breathing muscles too, cutting lives short.
Muscular Dystrophy UK is proud to be a charity partner of the Superhero Series, with Family Fund Carmela’s Stand Up to Muscular Dystrophy, taking part in the summer event, the Superhero Tri, as part of famous comedian Adam Hill’s team. The family appeared in the Channel 4 documentary about the event. Carmela’s Stand Up to Muscular Dystrophy Family Fund was set up to raise money for a cure for the rare form of muscular dystrophy, LMNA-congenital muscular dystrophy (L-CMD), that their daughter Carmela (4) has.
Lucy Chillery-Watson, of Devizes, Wiltshire, Carmella’s mother, said:
“We all had the most amazing day at the Superhero Tri, especially Carmela.
“It was great event that represented inclusivity. Carmela’s team captain was Adam Hills who was really good with Carmela.
“There was so much for the whole family to do, we will definitely be back next year!”
Louise Moffat, Muscular Dystrophy UK’s London Regional Development Manager, said:
“The wonderfully festive event is set to be a celebration of inclusion. We’re really excited to go along to our first Winter Wonderwheels as a charity partner, and we just need a team of superheroes to bring with us.
“By getting involved you can help us continue to fund pioneering research into potential treatments for muscle-wasting conditions, as well as supporting families across the country with practical information and advice.
“With more than 70,000 people in the UK living with a muscle-wasting condition, it’s important we do whatever we can to support them. Carmella’s appearance on TV last year was great for raising awareness and we hope we can continue to this year.”
Our experienced team will help you along the way with fundraising tips and there will be an orange cheer squad there on the day.
