A Wiltshire charity is using Volunteers Week (1 - 7 June) to give thanks to thousands of its volunteers.
Wessex Community Action wish to take this year's Volunteers Week as an opportunity to say thank you to thousands of volunteers that give up hundreds of hours to help their communities.
Chief executive Amber Skyring said: “Volunteers are always active in the heart of every UK community. They are behind many of the services we all rely on. Some are now volunteering online from home, others in person with a local charity or organisation.
“Their crucial contribution has not stopped, despite the uncertain times we find ourselves in, and will continue as an important part of the nation’s recovery.”
She said the contribution of volunteers is often unseen and unrecognised by many, visible only through the incredible impact of their volunteering.
Amber added: “However, the coronavirus pandemic has rightly raised the profile of volunteering and more people than ever are aware of the immense contribution being made every single day by Britain’s volunteers,” she added. “That is why, on this 38th annual Volunteers Week it’s time to say ‘thank you volunteers’,”
Wessex Community Action is running a week-long social media campaign on Twitter and Facebook to highlight the importance of volunteers.
Amber continued: “Our aim is to raise awareness of the essential role volunteers have in our Wiltshire community by highlighting some of the forums, resources, and support available for organisations that manage them.
“We are also celebrating a huge thank you to all those incredible volunteers and celebrate volunteering in all its diversity, with testimonials from Volunteers and those how have benefitted from the fantastic work they do.”
Members of the public can follow the charity on Twitter at @WessexCommAction or on Facebook by searching Wessex Community Action.
The group also runs the community website Wiltshire Together at wiltshiretogether.org.uk which has volunteering opportunities all over the county.
