Swindon Carers Centre will be celebrating the first year of the Young Carer Champion Award, funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, on Tuesday 1 October at Grange Community Centre, Swindon at 12.30pm.
The afternoon is an opportunity to thank education staff for all their work in implementing the Young Carer Champion Award in their schools and celebrating the fantastic achievements of the young carers in their schools who have undertaken the award. Around 30 schools will be represented by their Young Carer Lead and Young Carers.
Four schools will also be presented with the Ambassador Award. This is awarded to schools where the Young Carer Leads have gone above and beyond to support young carers.
Swindon Carers Centre developed the Young Carer Champion Award for Schools with young carers because they said they wanted to take the lead and be the voice of young carers in their schools. The aim of the award is to ensure young carers have the opportunities they need to achieve their full potential and have the same life chances as children who do not have a caring role.
Swindon Carers Centre’s Schools Development Manager Ann Giles says “This celebration is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the young carers as it is all about them! We will also be thanking all Young Carer Leads who do so much to support their young carers in their schools and colleges”.
