Closure order secured for address in Toothill, Swindon

The order was granted under Section 80 of the Antisocial, Crime and Policing Act 2014 on Friday and was sought for a property in Beaulieu Close, Toothill. 

It will prevent anyone from entering the address with the exception of the occupant, plus Swindon Borough Council employees and the Emergency Services. By entering the property, an offence could be committed and you may be arrested.

The order will remain in place for up to three months and has been put in place to safeguard the occupant, as well as protect the nearby residents from ongoing disruption.

Neighbourhood officer for West Swindon, PC Rory Draper said: “The Closure Order has been obtained to protect both the local community, and the occupant from being exploited by visitors to the address who may be linked to the use of supply of Class A drugs. We feel it is important to listen to the local community when they report suspicious activity and make sure that the most vulnerable in our society are afforded as much protection as possible. The impact on those living nearby has also been huge and we hope this brings some relief to them.

"During the three month order, we will continue to work with the resident and partner agencies including Swindon Borough Council, to come up with a long term solution to the problem.

"This is the second order of this nature obtained in West Swindon in the last two months. In total, police in Swindon have secured over 30 orders across the borough - closure orders are an effective tool in protecting the most vulnerable in our society and disrupting destructive behaviour that can have a significant negative impact on the whole community."
