There were brilliant jubilee celebrations for the Queen’s 70 year reign at the White Lodge Care Home in Braydon on Thursday, 2 June.
In the past few weeks there was great excitement at White Lodge Care Home in Braydon; where residents and staff spent their time decorating the home for a Jubilee activities programme and making Jubilee-themed decorations to prepare for their big Jubilee Afternoon Tea.
Staff and residents at the home put their heads together and came up with a plan for their celebrations fit for a Queen; inviting family, friends and the local community to join them for a Jubilee Celebration afternoon tea in the grounds last Thursday, 2 June.
On the actual day, both staff and residents came together to celebrate Britain’s longest reigning monarch and reminisce about what she meant to each one of them.
The Jubilee afternoon tea in the White Lodge Care Home grounds occurred on a gorgeously sunny day. Their fun in the sun was accompanied by performances of classic songs by the local brass band group Lockdown Brass, which residents really enjoyed.
Ramona Gherendi, General Manager at White Lodge said: “We’ve all had such a brilliant time celebrating the Platinum Jubilee, it has been such fun. Our staff and residents love the Queen and so they were all so excited to take part. It has been a real collaborative process - thinking about how we wanted to celebrate, planning our activities, decorating the home and creating all the party food. It was so lovely to be able to invite our friends and family to come and join us for a proper celebration too.”
Mollie Groom, a resident at the home, added: “The Queen is an amazing lady, everyone wanted to get involved in the celebrations. It is remarkable to think she has been on the throne for 70 years, such an achievement! I remember watching the Coronation on a small black and white TV.”
