Local Wiltshire engineer, Ross Wilson who grew up in Chippenham, has been awarded Technician Membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) - an influential body representing the 91,000 civil engineers and technicians across the world who design, build and maintain our transport, water, energy, waste and flood infrastructure.

ICE Technician Membership are awarded to a range of people practising in the broad area of civil engineering. Ross, who recently qualified as a Technician Member is now entitled to add the letters “EngTech MICE” to his name. ICE's professionally qualified grades of membership are internationally recognised and highly valued.

Ross was presented his membership certificate by ICE Vice-President Kyle Clough at a special ceremony held at ICE’s headquarters in Westminster, London.

Miranda Housden, ICE South West regional director, said: “Engineering technicians play a fundamental role in civil engineering, offering specialist skills and techniques and solving complex problems - ultimately they help to deliver infrastructure projects efficiently and on time. We congratulate Ross on his achievement and look forward to seeing him flourish in the next stage of his career.”

Ross, who works for BAM Nuttall as an engineer, said passing the review meant a lot to him. “It means that I finally have a worldwide recognised certification, which will allow me to carry out my dream to work abroad.”

He continued: “My Grandad was a civil engineer and he always spoke of his love for the industry. The huge range of working styles, methods and locations all intrigues me. If you are considering a career in engineering, I would definitely recommend talking to people in the industry and get some first-hand experience.”

The opportunity to join ICE is available to civil engineers, technicians and technical/scientific specialists at every stage of their professional career, from students and apprentices to senior board directors. Find out more at http://www.ice.org.uk/Membership
