More than half the team at a Swindon care at home provider have been rewarded for their loyalty to the company at its first annual awards ceremony.

The event was staged by Bluebird Care Swindon, where more than 20 carers were given a huge pat on the back for their hard work and dedication.

Ben Curtis set up Bluebird Care Swindon in late 2011, and seven of the team who received their five years’ service award have been with the company since the beginning. A further 14 received their four, three or one year service awards including the manager Katrina Simms.

Ben Curtis said: "When I set up Bluebird Care Swindon I knew its success depended on getting a really good team together.

"Katrina and I have definitely succeeded in doing this. The staff excel in providing outstanding care to our clients in their own homes.”

The company now has more than 40 staff and looks after more than 100, largely elderly, people.

Carol Telling, receiving her four years’ service award, said: “I enjoy building that relationship with somebody, and take pleasure in doing my job and getting the rewards.

"We get great support here, and I always feel I am part of the team and listened to.”

Steve Kilby, receiving his five years’ service award, said: “I enjoy supporting and helping people, and I like working with Bluebird Care because they gave me a chance to work in care and supported me while I worked towards my NVQ.”

Bluebird Care Swindon has offices at Groundwell, where it relocated last year having outgrown its original headquarters by the Railway Village.

Ben is proud that the business is also reaching out to support other organisations within the Swindon area that it covers.

So far this year, it has given two separate grants of £250 to organisations helping older people and last year ran two events aimed at bringing together organisations involved in supporting the elderly.

Bluebird Care Swindon offers a realistic alternative to residential care by allowing people to stay in their own homes with care and support.

The support can involve one or more short visits a day, extending to overnight help and live-in care.
