Old Town and East Wichel Councillors, Nadine Watts and Cllr Jane Milner-Barry, have welcomed the report on the Wichelstowe Joint Venture being considered by Cabinet this evening.

The report includes a statement that there are no plans to introduce a peak hours bus gate at Redpost Drive.

A bus gate at Redpost Drive was part of the original planning consent for the Wichelstowe development.

Cabinet have recognised the traffic impact of installing a bus gate at Redpost Drive and have consequently reviewed their plans.

Cllr Nadine Watts, said"Both Jane and I are pleased that the peak hours bus gate on Redpost Drive has recently been reviewed, as the original outline consent for Wichelstowe did  include some constraints to be placed here.

"The Cabinet paper details that this will not be reviewed again until 2021 when it is expected that the Southern Access Road is complete. We had expressed concerns about the impact on traffic in Old Town if this bus gate had been introduced.

"That there are no plans to introduce the bus gate is good news for many Old Town and East Wichel residents who can continue to use this route which bypasses a lot of the rush hour traffic in the centre of Old Town for at least several years to come."
